About Dr. Robert Lieberson

The late Dr. Robert Lieberson (MD, MHA, FACS, FAANS) was a Stanford-trained neurosurgeon who has been in practice for more than 30 years in the Los Angeles area.

Dr. Robert Lieberson received his training as a computer scientist at the University of Pennsylvania Moore School of Computer Science. During medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, he worked as a computer scientist to help pay his tuition.

​

Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Robert Lieberson went on to finish seven years of neurosurgical training at Stanford University, as well as one year as a spinal cord injury and research fellow at the same institution.

His practice in neurosurgery, spine surgery, and pain management grew to become one of the largest in Northern California after completing his residency training there. As the first outpatient cervical disc surgery in Northern California, and the first outpatient pedicle screw fusion surgery in the Western United States, Dr. Robert Lieberson established a precedent. Since returning to Stanford in 2008 as a Professor, Dr. Robert Lieberson has taught and mentored new neurosurgeons in the fields of traumatology, spine surgery, and CyberKnife.

He conducted brain tumor research at Stanford, and he has published and presented on around 50 different topics throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Robert Lieberson has been working as a locum tenens provider in a variety of hospitals for the past many years, including Howard University in Washington, DC, and the University of California San Francisco's Alameda County Neurosurgery Division in Oakland, CA. Dr. Robert Lieberson returned to school in the fall of 2015.

He graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a Master's in Healthcare Administration. Since then, he has continued to practice neurosurgery while also consulting for a variety of organizations, including start-up firms, state medical boards, attorneys general, and others, on topics related to medical computer science applications and quality assurance.

The distinguished physician Dr. Robert Lieberson has received various honors, including numerous awards from Stanford University and his other connected hospitals.
